Nomenclature

"It seems like Greek and Latin".
Of course they are....
"Don't you think it is strange?December is the twelfth month of the year. And do you know what actually december means?-Ten!",qoutes the great mathematician Shakunthala Devi during her
conversation with Prof.Jellinek.
"daka" is a greek word meaning "ten". "Decalitre" would mean ten litres and "decade" means ten years.
The early Romans before Julius Caesarfrom whom our calender comes from began the year in March.Hence December was the last month.
September-Septem-seven
October-Octo-eight
November-Novem-nine
December-Deca-ten
In later days as the new-year was moved to January 1,the names of the months were not shifted which caused the disparity between the meanings of the names of certain months and their sequence.
