The Bay!
Melange of merry and melancholy!
My doors are always open for the last day of the week. Welcome le Samedi! My drowsy eyes were staring at the google doodle of the day. My fingers were hovering on the keypad while the other hand held a black coffee mug. Filter coffee tastes best on Saturday evenings!
"Diya... Are you ready?" , called out aunty.
"Er... aunty, 5 minutes", I sprang out of the couch.
I am pretty sure that the above statement is practically impossible! For any girl to be ready to leave, it takes at least three minutes to decide on the dress, two minutes to choose the shade of eye shadow, two more to choose the glamorous handbag and a quater of an hour for the final touch. We had plans of spending the evening at the beach sands.
It was almost dusk when we neared the Kannagi* statue at the Marina. I could hear the gush of sea breeze amidst the galloping of horses. I could see surf and tide amidst paper kites on air. I could smell pearls amidst the city's own fragrance.
“You know, something...”, aunty said as we walked on the beach sands. “When your sister was young, I used to come here every evening with your uncle after office”.
“Is it so aunty?”
“Yeah, It feels like...... hmm...” , aunty sank in her own thoughts. A sudden loud music bought aunty back to the world. “Ah yes... It feels like flying!” , she added.
“Baby I feel like flying....” , it was a lady’s iphone which was doing the duty of a thesaurus. Thanks to Simbu* for the service!
We walked further down to reach the waters. The maiden clash of the tide with my toes delighted me! I was on cloud nine. Teens around me were as exited as I was. Childern had fun with parents. The waves kept wavering, I was enjoying the panorama of the sea, the sway of a boat and the brightest ever moon!
“Aunty, look at the moon!” , I said with full of excitement!
“Oh yes. It is pournami* today. And that is why the tides are this high”, said aunty.
It cannot be easy for anyone to compare the Bengal Bay with the tranquil waters of the Pacific. At least, not for me. Why does the ocean keep roaring? Well, I could parallel Kannagi’s historic shriek with the blue’s howl. But what about the great Indian screech on the twelfth month of two thousand four?
“Akka...*” , someone shook me. “ Pebble made ear-rings. Nice nice ear-rings, good necklace. Please buy. No eat. Two days “. She gave a timid appearance. Well, were her parents a victim of the bay?
What a transition I felt within myself! I was no more exited. My electrons were back to the ground state.
“Are you ok? “ , aunty broke the silence.
“Yes aunty”, I paused. “All is well, but not every moment”.
“What do you mean”, she softened.
“Life, it is, MERRY AND MELANCHOLY”!

Nature... mellifluous!!!
Do you relish travelogues?
Then keep going..... this is for you.
After the tiresome summer exams, I was looking forward for a respite from the hectic city life. A friend of mine wished to make a visit to the land of coconuts, "Kerala". I shrugged my shoulders and simply nodded and we started off delightfully towards the port city Cochin.
It was a five hours journey from the cotton city Coimbatore. We landed at the Cochin port. The backwaters of Cochin is a place of scenic beauty. One can feel relaxed watching the serene, tranquil silvery waters. It induced in me a feeling of melancholy as we stepped on the muddy ground after the long boat drive. We then took a walk at the "royal musical walkway", enjoying the melodies and the evening breeze.
We spent the cold night at a luxurious appartment hotel located in the prime area of Cochin. One can find many such multi-storied buildings in the city lodging several tourists from all around the world.
The next morning, before dawn we checked out of the hotel and hired a taxi. We learnt from the taxi driver that it would take around an hour to reach Chalakudi, a tourist spot located at Thrissur district where the most beautiful falls of the country is located. We travelled through the ranges of Sholaiyar forest. The forest shelters a variety of wild animals and has a large number of resin and rubber trees. Before we reached the falls, we had to take a brisk walk through the narrow stony path about a kilometer long leading to the cascade of waters. On the way, we also fed the bulky monkeys which were jumping from tree to tree with sweet yellowish bananas. And finally we neared the most awaited spot! wow!! thrilling!!! aewsome!!!
The charm of the Athirampally cannot be described by words, starting calmly from the high ranges and crashing through gorges overhung with trees,a feast to the eyes, this waterfall is one of the best places in India to re-capture a real sense of the classical idea of the "Picturesque"...not just calm and sweet, but something wild and natural. I was on cloud nine when I catched the panoramic view. I kept gazing at the beauty of nature.
Well... thats it.. and now I can tell you this falls must be visited at least once in life-time.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.
